This page outlines the various positions held within the Law Society Committee. This includes brief descriptions of the each role, as well as what tasks and jobs are expected of a successful candidate elected into a position on the committee. The content on this page is not absolute, just hoping to portray what your committee members do individually, and what newly elected members should be doing.
Description: The main role of the Law Society President is to manage, run and lead the society. The role entails the management of all aspects of the society, such as the Competitions, Socials and any other business of the society (such as the sale and distribution of hoodies). Also, the President has the responsible of liaising with the Student Union, as the Law Society is a subsidiary of the Union itself.
Description: The Vice President has the main task of aiding the President in his/her duties in the running and managing of the society as a whole. The VP can assist in all aspects of the society, with not being restricted to a specific task, providing a flexible arm of assistance within the committee.
Description: The Secretary is responsible for organizing agendas, taking minutes during meetings and playing an administrative role in the Law Society executive. The Secretary is also responsible to manage the membership of the Law Society. This includes signing up new members and the renewal of previous membership. Assist members with any problems, issues or queries they may have regarding the society.
Description: The Treasurer is responsible for managing the finances of the Law Society. All membership fees, and other income such as from the sale of hoodies or Ball tickets, are collected by the Treasurer and deposited in the Hull Student Union accounts. All refunds, expenses and withdrawals concerning the Law Society account are processed by the Treasurer.
Description: The Social Events Officer has the primary responsibility for organising the Law Society's social engagements, from the typical Pub Crawl to the more form Law Ball, and also a series of other events such as quizzes and get togethers. The Social Events Officer is also responsible for keeping the Law Society's social calendar up to date.
Description: The Academic Events Officer is responsible for organising the Law Society's academic events. These can be from an open day at the College of Law, Chester, to a trip to the Supreme Courts of Justice in London. The Academic Events Officer is responsible for keeping the Law Society's academic calendar up to date.
Description: The IT and Publicity Officer is responsible for the Law Society's online presence, mainly in regards to the website. The tasks revolve around the update and general maintenance of the site, regularly updating the site with up to date news concerning the society such as upcoming socials and competition rounds, the uploading of social photos and society documents for download. Improvements and advancements on the site is a general mandate of the position. In terms of its technical, operational aspects falls under the control of the IT and Publicity Officer. Any other IT related task of the society can be routed through the IT and Publicity Officer.
Description: The Liaison Officer is responsible for ensuring communication and cooperation between the Law Society and an organization by serving as an official go-between. The Liaison Officer also has a supervisory responsibility of ensuring the two organizations complete a given task.
Description: The Mistress/Master of the Moot will have the task of overseeing all aspects relating to Mooting, namely the McLaren Moot Court Competition. The duties would also entail the management of the Gwilym Owen Exceptional Advocate Competition. The Mistress/Master of the Moot is also responsible for selecting, training and equipping students to take part in the mooting competitions which is held every year.
